Two Midlothian curry houses, Itihaas and the Radhuni, have been recognized as some of the best in the world by tourist site Tripadvisor at the Travelers’ Choice Awards 2024. These restaurants have earned a spot in the top ten percent of restaurants globally, according to the Scottish Daily Express. The Radhuni, located in Loanhead, and Itihaas in Dalkeith, have received various prestigious awards and accolades in the past, solidifying their reputation as top-tier curry restaurants.
The Radhuni was previously named the UK’s top curry restaurant by Curry Life magazine and has been awarded Scotland’s Curry Restaurant of the Year twice. Additionally, the restaurant has received an AA Rosette and was the winner of the ‘Hidden Gem’ category in the Scotsman’s Scran Awards for the Edinburgh, Fife, and east Scotland region. Itihaas, also based in Dalkeith, has been recognized as the restaurant of the year by the Midlothian and East Lothian Chamber of Commerce on two occasions.
Habibur Khan, the Managing Partner of both restaurants, expressed his gratitude for the recognition, highlighting the hard work and dedication of their teams in maintaining high standards of food and service. The prestigious TripAdvisor awards ceremony celebrates businesses that have consistently received excellent reviews on the website, reflecting the positive experiences of their customers.
In addition to the success of Itihaas and the Radhuni, other culinary experts in Scotland have also been honored recently. The eighth Asian Restaurant Awards took place in Edinburgh, where 13 awards were presented to outstanding restaurateurs and chefs across the country. Some of the winners included Light of Bengal for Aberdeenshire, Ignite for Edinburgh, Charcoals for Glasgow, and Maharaj in Aberdeen as the Newcomer of the Year.
Furthermore, Carron to Mumbai in Stonehaven was awarded Fine Dining Restaurant of the Year, Mother India Café in Edinburgh received Street Food Restaurant of the Year, and Desi Dhaba Chaiwala in Glasgow was named Family Restaurant of the Year. Various takeaways were also recognized, such as St Johns Curry Club and Memories of India in Edinburgh, Handi Masala in Dunfermline, and Gurkha Kitchen in Fraserburgh.
Individual awards were given to Asian Chef of the Year Jabir Hussain from Panache in Elgin, and Entrepreneur of the Year Muhammad Sultan, the owner of Charcoals in Glasgow. These awards showcase the diversity and excellence of Asian cuisine across Scotland, highlighting the hard work and talent of individuals in the restaurant industry.
