Edinburgh’s beloved food market, The Pitt, is set to open its doors in Granton after two years of anticipation. The new venue will feature an indoor market, outdoor street food area, coffee shop, bar, and events space with a capacity of 700 people. The grand opening is scheduled for December 6 at 5pm, with live music from local artists Dara Dubh and Eve Simpson.

The Pitt made the move from Leith to Granton in order to expand and offer more to the community. Led by the not-for-profit community interest company Granton Project CIC, the impressive £500,000+ venue covers 15,000 sq ft of space. The market will showcase familiar vendors from its previous location, such as Buffalo Truck and Barney’s Beer, as well as new additions like Pulp Friction, Choola, and Fire Bowl. Social Bite will also be on board as the exclusive dessert provider.

Local organizations like Granton Youth, Granton Community Garden, and Granton Castle Walled Garden are already part of the new partnership at The Pitt. Situated on West Shore Road, the new venue offers stunning views of the Firth of Forth from the Granton promenade. The market will be open Thursday to Sunday from 8am to 10pm, providing ample opportunity for visitors to enjoy the variety of offerings.

Hal Prescott, Chief Executive of The Pitt, expressed his excitement about the upcoming opening, highlighting the new amenities and features of the expanded venue. He emphasized the importance of community support in making the project a reality. Ali Kennedy from Foundation Scotland and Daisy Ford-Downes from Firstport praised the project for its potential impact on the local community and economy.

Barney’s Beer, a long-time partner of The Pitt, shared their enthusiasm for the new location and the opportunity to collaborate with other vendors. Prescott reiterated the market’s commitment to accessibility and affordability, ensuring that all events are welcoming to the entire community. The Pitt aims to be a hub for entrepreneurship and community engagement in Granton, contributing to the area’s ongoing regeneration.

As part of the larger Granton Waterfront regeneration project, The Pitt will play a key role in fostering social cohesion and economic development in North Edinburgh. The market’s opening signals a significant milestone in the area’s revitalization efforts, promising a vibrant and inclusive space for locals and visitors alike.
