Rescued Exotic Animals in Edinburgh Seek Forever Homes – SSPCA Adoption Opportunity
In a heartwarming tale of second chances, three unique Edinburgh pets rescued by the Scottish SPCA in 2024 are now on a quest to find their forever homes. Oslo and Cairo, a pair of tarantulas, along with Diane the scorpion, are looking for loving families to adopt them and provide a safe and caring environment.
Meet Oslo and Cairo
Oslo, the curly hair tarantula, and Cairo, the blue baboon tarantula, found their way to the Edinburgh Rescue and Rehoming Centre earlier this year. Despite their intimidating appearance, these arachnids have quickly won over the hearts of their caretakers. Oslo, described as a laid-back spider, enjoys being handled and often crawls onto its owner’s hands for a closer look. On the other hand, Cairo is more elusive, preferring to spend its time hidden in a burrow under bark refuge. While Cairo may not be as sociable as Oslo, both tarantulas are thriving in their new homes and are adapting well to their surroundings.
Introducing Diane the Scorpion
Meanwhile, Diane the scorpion is patiently waiting for the right family to come along. Currently residing at the Edinburgh and Lothians centre, Diane is in need of a knowledgeable owner who understands the care requirements of these unique creatures. Scorpions, like Diane, thrive in environments with secure enclosures that maintain appropriate temperature and humidity levels. Potential adopters are encouraged to do their homework and ensure they can provide a suitable habitat for Diane to thrive in.
How to Adopt

By opening your heart and home to these rescued exotic animals, you can make a difference in their lives and give them the love and care they deserve.
As a journalist, I had the opportunity to visit the Edinburgh Rescue and Rehoming Centre and witness firsthand the dedication and compassion of the staff towards these unique animals. It was inspiring to see the transformation of Oslo, Cairo, and Diane as they settled into their new environments with grace and resilience. Adopting a pet, especially one with a unique background like these exotic animals, can be a rewarding experience for both the animal and the adopter. If you have ever considered adding a special companion to your family, now is the perfect time to make a difference in the life of a rescued animal.
