redevelopment-plan-for-former-caledonian-brewery-site-approved

Well, folks, buckle up because we’ve got some juicy news for you! The historic former Caledonian Brewery in Edinburgh is about to undergo a major transformation into a 168-flat development. But here’s the kicker – there will only be two parking spaces available on site. Yeah, you heard that right, just two!

The locals, as expected, were not too pleased about this whole parking situation. With over 150 objections lodged, concerns were raised about the lack of parking spaces, especially since the proposed ones were reserved for wheelchair accessibility. But guess what? The Edinburgh councillors went ahead and approved the plans anyway. Go figure!

Conservative councillor Jo Mowat seemed pretty stoked about the whole thing, praising the development as a positive step towards adding more housing to the city while still preserving the brewery’s historical charm. On the flip side, Liberal Democrat councillor Hal Osler also chimed in, expressing his delight at the unique nature of the site and the potential for future upgrades.

The local community, however, wasn’t having it. With 164 comments received, a whopping 152 of them were against the development. One resident even went as far as to call the whole thing “very poor planning” due to the lack of parking spaces. Another long-term resident voiced concerns about the impact on public transport and the potential disruption to the area. Sounds like tensions are running high over in Edinburgh!

And get this – turns out the property is not even in a controlled parking zone, so residents won’t be able to apply for parking permits in the area. Talk about adding fuel to the fire! The closure of Edinburgh’s last major brewery in 2022, which resulted in the loss of 30 jobs, only added to the drama. But hey, at least most of the original brewery will be preserved, right? Silver linings and all that jazz.

So there you have it, folks. The battle over parking spaces at the former Caledonian Brewery site rages on. Will the developers cave to the pressure and make changes to the plans? Only time will tell. But one thing’s for sure – this is one development project that’s got everyone talking. Stay tuned for more updates on this brewing controversy!
