Newcastle United Women recently made changes to their coaching staff ahead of their upcoming clash with AC Milan. Claire Ditchburn has been appointed as the interim Assistant Manager, coming from Championship rivals Durham where she served as head coach last season. Ditchburn brings a wealth of experience from her time with Durham, Everton, and Manchester City.

Manager Becky Langley expressed her excitement about working with Ditchburn, praising her coaching abilities and experience. The addition of Ditchburn follows the departure of goalkeeping coach Chris Stygal, who has left to join Women’s Super League side Aston Villa. Stygal played a crucial role in the team’s back-to-back promotions and success.

In response to Stygal’s departure, the club quickly appointed Tom Read as the temporary goalkeeping coach. Read, who currently coaches at Blyth Spartans and the i2i Soccer Academy, will support the team as they prepare for their upcoming fixtures, including the Sela Cup clash against AC Milan.

Additionally, Newcastle United Women have confirmed the dates for the highly-anticipated Tyne-Wear Championship Derby games against Sunderland. The first game will take place at The Stadium of Light on Sunday, October 13th, with the return fixture at St. James’ Park on Sunday, March 23rd. The club has also announced that the Championship clash against Southampton on Sunday, October 17th will be held at St. James’ Park.

These changes in coaching staff and upcoming fixtures signal an exciting time for Newcastle United Women as they gear up for the new Championship season. The team is focused on building on their recent success and continuing to progress in the Women’s Championship. With new additions to the coaching staff and key fixtures on the horizon, fans can expect an exciting season ahead.
