An incident in Edinburgh has led to a carer receiving a warning after leaving a resident unsupervised while eating, resulting in choking. The carer, Huong Vo Thanh Dang, was given an 18-month warning for breaching essential guidelines as a social care worker at Leonard Cheshire Disability. The Scottish Social Services Council conducted a review following incidents in June 2023 and deemed the behavior as serious. Despite being provided with a ham salad roll to eat unsupervised, the resident started choking, highlighting the risk of harm or even death. The SSSC chose not to remove the carer from the register but issued an official warning due to the concerning behavior. Leonard Cheshire expressed their commitment to prioritizing the safety and well-being of individuals in their care, taking immediate action to address the situation. It is crucial for social service workers to maintain high standards of care, particularly when working with vulnerable populations, to ensure public confidence and trust in the workforce.
