A new housing scheme is in the works for Midlothian, with plans for a sustainable village called Lingerwood that will feature around 1,000 homes. The development, located off Stobhill Road near Newtongrange, will include a mix of two, three, four, and five bedroom houses. The first phase of the project will consist of 63 homes, with designs already unveiled.
In addition to the residential properties, Lingerwood will offer open green spaces, nature paths, and woodland planting. Developers have promised to preserve existing trees on the site and improve connections to nearby areas like Crawlees Road. A ‘safe pedestrian route’ will also be established to link the village to the Mayfield Industrial Estate.
Springfield Managing Director, Andy Curran, expressed excitement about the project, stating that the development will feature energy-efficient homes designed to streamline operations and provide the best options for customers. The village is being planned with a focus on creating a well-connected community that aligns with the 20-minute neighborhood model, promoting local, sustainable living by ensuring easy access to amenities like shops and play parks.
Lingerwood aims to become a thriving village capable of meeting the needs of local residents for years to come. The project is part of Springfield’s portfolio of sustainable communities, with successful developments in Dundee, Perth, Elgin, and plans for a new village near Stirling. The company has collaborated with Midlothian Council and local stakeholders to design Lingerwood, incorporating feedback to create a village that complements the existing residential areas in the region.
While the plans for Lingerwood have not yet been approved by Midlothian Council, developers are optimistic about the project’s potential. They are eager to receive feedback on the proposed designs in the coming months and are confident that Lingerwood will set a high standard for placemaking in the area. The village is poised to become a well-integrated community that enhances the quality of life for its residents and contributes to the overall sustainability of the region.
