The whole free parking situation in the capital could be getting a major shake-up, folks. Apparently, the big idea is to start charging for parking on Boxing Day, Easter Monday, Christmas Day, and New Years’ Day. Sounds like a real bummer for those looking to snag a free spot on those holidays, huh?

So, the Transport and Environment Committee folks had a chat and decided to look into cutting all four of these free parking days. Labour councillor Stephen Jenkinson mentioned something about widening the scope to see how much money they could rake in. Seems like they’re really trying to beef up the funding for those bus routes that don’t really make much money but are still super important.

Initially, the plan was to only nix the free parking on Boxing Day and Easter Monday. But, hold on to your hats, because they’re now thinking about axing all four of those parking holidays. Liberal Democrat councillor Neil Ross was on board with just cutting two of the days, but he went with the flow and accepted the amendment to explore cutting all four. So, it looks like we might have to start paying up on those days in the future.
