A young electrician named Scott Innes from Armadale faced a distressing situation while on vacation when he discovered that his essential work tools had been stolen from his van. Scott, who is a trainee electrician, relies on these tools for his job. The theft is believed to have occurred between Friday and Saturday night on Brown Street in West Lothian.
Among the stolen items were a Milwaukee impact gun, Milwaukee combi drill, Milwaukee SDS drill, Milwaukee multitool, Milwaukee batteries, Milwaukee battery charger, and a Velocity tool bag containing electrical hand tools. Scott expressed his devastation over the incident, stating that he is unable to work without his tools as they are vital to his livelihood.
Scott is urging anyone who may have information about the whereabouts of his tools or who may be approached to buy them to come forward to the police. He only noticed the theft on Sunday, October 27, as he was on annual leave and did not check his van during that time. The police have launched an investigation into the matter, but they have stated that their inquiries are still in the early stages.
In a statement, Scott shared, “This has impacted me as I’m unable to work without my tools. I am an electric apprentice and this is my livelihood. It happened sometime between Friday, October 25, and Saturday, October 26, but I didn’t notice until the following Sunday as I wasn’t working due to being on annual leave. Police are calling me Wednesday night to interview me.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson confirmed the incident, stating, “Around 9.15pm on Sunday, October 27, 2024, a report was made that tools had been stolen from a van parked on Brown Street, Armadale. Enquiries are at an early stage.”
The loss of essential tools for an electrician can have a significant impact on their ability to work and earn a living. Scott’s situation highlights the vulnerability of tradespeople who rely on their equipment to carry out their jobs effectively. It serves as a reminder of the importance of taking precautions to secure valuable tools and equipment, especially when they are stored in vehicles overnight or during periods of inactivity.
As a trainee electrician, Scott’s experience also sheds light on the challenges faced by young professionals in the industry, particularly in terms of job security and the potential setbacks caused by unforeseen circumstances such as theft. This incident serves as a cautionary tale for other tradespeople to remain vigilant and take steps to protect their tools and livelihoods.
