The famous Big Wheel ride is making a comeback to Edinburgh this holiday season. Organizers of Edinburgh’s Christmas have announced that the LNER Big Wheel will be located in East Princes Street Gardens in November as part of a new partnership with the train operator. Standing at 46m tall, the LNER Big Wheel will offer riders a stunning view of the city, including the historic Old Town, Edinburgh Castle, and Arthur’s Seat, as well as the twinkling lights of Edinburgh’s Christmas attractions.

Opening from 10am to 10pm, the LNER Big Wheel will be lighting up the City Centre from Friday, November 15, 2024, until Saturday, January 4, 2025. Families can enjoy a ride in one of the 36 enclosed weather-proof pods, regardless of the weather. A special recorded soundtrack will provide passengers with information about the key landmarks and attractions visible around the City Centre. Construction of the Big Wheel will begin on October 30, becoming a focal point of the city’s Christmas celebrations and a welcoming sight to visitors arriving at Waverley Station by train.

Last year, the Big Wheel attracted over 210,000 visitors who enjoyed breathtaking winter views of the capital and the festive evening lights. David Flesher, LNER’s Commercial Director, expressed his excitement about LNER’s involvement in Edinburgh’s Christmas celebrations this year, offering a unique way for people to experience the city. Christmas tickets are now on sale, allowing customers to plan a festive trip and get into the holiday spirit in Scotland.

Unique Assembly, the producers of Edinburgh’s Christmas, also expressed their delight in working with LNER to bring the holiday spirit to Edinburgh. The Big Wheel is a significant part of the city’s Christmas festivities, providing thousands of people with the opportunity to admire the iconic landmarks and attractions illuminated for the season. EH postcode residents can enjoy a 20% discount on the LNER Big Wheel, with more details available on edinburgh-christmas.com.
