Eight pro-Palestine activists, including two from Edinburgh, are facing charges for allegedly causing over £1 million in damage to an Israel-based defense firm’s site in South Gloucestershire. The incident, which occurred on August 6 at Elbit Systems UK’s site near Patchway, Bristol, involved the protesters using sledgehammers and whips to vandalize the property.
The accused individuals, Sean Middlebrough, Aleksandra Herbich, Teuta Hoxha, Julia Brigadirova, Heba Muraisi, Qesser Zuhrah, Zahra Farooque, and Kamran Ahmed, appeared at the Old Bailey via video link on Friday. They are facing charges of aggravated burglary and criminal damage in connection with the incident.
Protest and Charges
The group of activists allegedly entered the premises of Elbit Systems UK as trespassers and proceeded to destroy or damage property valued at more than £1 million. The charges also include accusations of violent disorder against some of the defendants.
Legal Proceedings
During a previous court hearing, it was revealed that a vehicle was used to ram the building’s doors, resulting in injuries to two police officers and a security guard. Ten other individuals are set to stand trial next year for their involvement in the protest.
Court Dates
The group of eight defendants will attend a mention hearing on January 17, where the two cases are expected to be consolidated. A plea hearing is scheduled for May 2 for the group of eight, while their trial is anticipated to take place several months down the line.
