An Edinburgh woman named Ania Turska, 42, woke up from an induced coma unable to move after contracting Covid-19 in August 2021. She was previously healthy and did not have any pre-existing conditions before falling critically ill. Ania, originally from Poland, now requires intensive therapy to regain her mobility and speech.

Ania’s friend, Anna, shared that Ania’s journey has been incredibly challenging. She was living alone when she got sick and ended up in the hospital where she was put on a ventilator and then placed in a coma. Upon waking up, she was diagnosed with severe polyneuropathy, which left her unable to move any part of her body.

Since then, Ania has been fighting to regain her health with the support of her mother, who now lives with her to provide care. Despite some progress, Ania still faces daily challenges. She is learning to speak again and breathe on her own during the day, but requires oxygen support at night. She is currently unable to move her arms or legs independently, but has slowly started moving her legs.

Ania’s friends and family have started a fundraiser to help cover the costs of her specialized rehabilitation in Poland, which is estimated to be around £15,000. This program would provide Ania with personalized therapy from a team of specialists to help her make progress in her recovery. The goal is to give her the best possible chance of rebuilding her muscle strength, relearning basic movements, and gaining some independence.

If you would like to donate to Ania’s fundraiser and support her on her journey to recovery, you can find more information on how to contribute. Ania’s story is a reminder of the long-lasting impact that Covid-19 can have on individuals and the importance of ongoing support and rehabilitation for those affected.
