edinburgh-roundabout-closures-shutting-again-for-several-months

The Cameron Toll roundabout in Edinburgh is once again making headlines as it is set to close for several months due to bridge repairs. This closure comes after a series of previous shutdowns due to various issues, causing frustration for locals and commuters alike.

Previous Troubles

The roundabout, located on Lady Road outside Cameron Toll, has faced multiple closures in 2024, with some lasting several months. Most recently, the roundabout was shut down due to a sinkhole discovered by Scottish Gas Network, disrupting traffic flow until it was reopened earlier this month.

New Closure Announcement

Labour’s Ian Murray took to social media to share the unfortunate news with the community. Network Rail has informed him that repairs on the railway bridge over the roundabout are scheduled to begin on January 13, 2025, and are expected to last for “several months.” This upcoming closure will include night-time single lane road closures from January 18 to March 28, as well as a full closure between February 5 and 18.

Reason for Closure

Network Rail outlined the scope of the repair work, which includes installing a new deck, waterproofing system, masonry and steelwork repairs, ballast retention, upgraded warning signs, and vegetation management. These essential repairs have been delayed due to emergency utilities works, making it crucial for the bridge replacement to proceed as planned.

Community Impact

The ongoing disruptions in the area have undoubtedly caused inconvenience for residents and travelers. Network Rail has sent out letters to those living near the site with detailed information about the upcoming work. However, they encourage anyone with questions or concerns to reach out directly for clarification.

As we navigate through these road closures and detours, it’s essential to remember that safety and infrastructure maintenance are critical for the well-being of our community. Let’s all show patience and understanding as we work together to ensure the smooth operation of our roadways.
