So, like, the River City cast, you know, they had a protest in Edinburgh at Holyrood on Wednesday, April 23. They wanted to save the Scottish soap that’s been on for, like, over 20 years. Stephen Purdon, who plays Shellsuit Bob, was all like, “We care about the show and the people who work on it. What about the trainees? And what about the fans? We gotta ask BBC Scotland to change their minds, like, now.” The show, which is filmed in Dumbarton, has been on since 2002, but BBC Scotland is pulling the plug in September 2026. The cast went to the Scottish Parliament to beg them to keep the show. But, like, SNP, Labour, Tory, and Green MSPs were all, “Save River City! It’s important for culture and jobs!” There were talks about how canceling the show makes Scotland lose out on talent and money. Scottish Labour Deputy Leader Jackie Baillie was like, “River City has brought opportunities to Dumbarton. Save it!” The Culture Secretary was all, “BBC, invest in Scotland and keep making shows like River City.” BBC Scotland says they’re ditching the show to focus on new drama series because people don’t watch long shows anymore. They’re starting three new series instead.
