Two ambulance bros gearing up for the ultimate challenge, running the Edinburgh Marathon with all their gear and hefty 10kg bags on their backs! Jack Falconer and Dominic Ballisat, the dynamic duo from the Scottish Ambulance Service, are hitting the streets of Edinburgh on Sunday, May 25. Their mission? To raise some serious cash for The Ambulance Service Charity, a noble cause that supports the mental, physical, and financial well-being of ambulance peeps across the UK.
Dominic, hailing from the Edinburgh Ambulance Station, spilled the beans to the Daily Record, saying, “We’re tackling this marathon to help out TASC because they’ve got our backs when we need ’em most.” And Jack, representing all the way from Wick, chimed in, “We’re lugging our kit bag, uniform, and boots along for the ride to make things extra challenging. Hopefully, it’ll shine a light on the struggles ambulance folks face every day, both mentally and physically.”
Getting down and dirty with the details, Dominic, a seasoned marathon runner who used to hustle at Thurso station, has already conquered three marathons in the past. On the flip side, this will be Jack’s first rodeo. Dominic spilled the tea, saying, “We’ve been pounding the pavement with our boots, trousers, and a 10kg bag plus water. It’s gonna be a tough one, especially if the sun decides to show up. But hey, nothing good comes easy, am I right?” TASC, being a lone wolf charity without NHS or ambulance service funding, offers a lifeline for ambulance peeps in need, including mental health support, a crisis helpline, rehab for on-duty injuries, and financial advice. Jasmin Rana, TASC’s Head of Income Generation, gushed, “Huge shoutout to Jack and Dominic for taking on this beastly challenge for TASC! We’re not sponsored by the big guns, so we rely on the kindness of our supporters to keep the magic going for our ambulance heroes. Thanks to these two rockstars and everyone who’s got their backs, we’ve already raked in nearly £2,500 (with GiftAid) – that’s like 46 hours of mental health support or 172 financial guidance sessions. Major props from the TASC crew, much love!” Dominic and Jack’s fundraising page is just a click away for those wanting to chip in.
