Tweed Valley Mountain Rescue Team Responds to Increased Callouts
Over the past weekend, the Tweed Valley Mountain Rescue Team experienced a surge in emergency calls, marking the beginning of March with a flurry of incidents requiring their expertise. With a total of 11 callouts already in the month, the team has been kept busy responding to various rescue missions in Midlothian and the Scottish Borders.
Assistance in the Pentland Hills
The weekend started with the team receiving their eighth and ninth callouts in Midlothian on Saturday and Sunday. The first incident involved assisting Police Scotland in locating an injured individual on steep terrain in the Pentland Hills. Utilizing drones and their specialized rigging equipment, the team successfully located and rescued the person, showcasing their seamless collaboration with emergency services.
In a social media post, the Rescue Team highlighted the challenges and triumphs of their operations, emphasizing the importance of working closely with partners such as the Scottish Ambulance Service and Police Scotland Lothians & Scottish Borders. The efficient response to the Pentland Hills incident, which began at 10 am and concluded by 2 pm, demonstrated the team’s dedication and skill in handling complex rescue scenarios.
Response in the Scottish Borders
Continuing their streak of callouts, the Tweed Valley Mountain Rescue Team was summoned to the Scottish Borders for their tenth and eleventh missions on March 9th and 10th. The team swiftly mobilized to Glentress, where they assisted in evacuating a severely injured mountain biker from the Black trail. Despite the challenging terrain, the rescue operation was completed within a short timeframe, reflecting the team’s efficiency and professionalism in executing critical missions.
Shortly after the Glentress operation, the team received another call to Innerleithen and Caddon Bank to aid in extracting a mountain biker with a suspected broken ankle. Thanks to the prompt response of the Scottish Ambulance Service, the casualty was already receiving medical attention upon the team’s arrival, leading to a quick resolution of the situation. The Tweed Valley Mountain Rescue Team extended their well wishes for a speedy recovery to both individuals involved in the Scottish Borders incidents.
