The old West Lothian car showroom is being demolished to make way for a new Lidl supermarket. The demolition work began last week, with bulldozers seen on site. Images shared online show construction and diversion signs set up around the Craigshill area of Livingston. This new development is part of plans to bring a Lidl supermarket to the area, which is expected to create 40 full-time jobs for the local community.
The new Lidl store will feature an in-house bakery, offering fresh goods along with their usual affordable products and surprise items in the middle aisle. The store will be a single-story building with a gross internal area of 1,949 sqm. The net sales area will be 1,331 sqm, with a focus on convenience goods but also including comparison goods on a rotating basis. Additionally, there will be a warehouse area, ancillary floorspace, staff welfare facilities, an in-store bakery, customer toilets, and more.
West Lothian Council approved the plans for the new Lidl store on Almond Road in Craigshill. The decision was announced on April 12th, with the council stating that the project includes the demolition of the old car showroom and the construction of a new 2,027sqm store with canopy, access points, parking, landscaping, and other necessary works.
The new supermarket is expected to not only provide convenient shopping options for residents but also boost the local economy by creating job opportunities. The addition of an in-house bakery will also offer customers fresh and delicious goods to enjoy. The improved access points and pedestrian pathways will ensure a safe and efficient shopping experience for both drivers and pedestrians in the area.
Overall, the demolition of the old car showroom marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the Craigshill area of Livingston, with the arrival of a modern Lidl supermarket that will cater to the needs of the community and provide a convenient shopping destination for residents.
